CAMPING
The
campsite covers an area of 95 acres: 30 acres of rolling meadowland,
30 acres of beautiful woodland and a large 35 acre field. There
is a choice of secluded sites in wooded glades or more open sites
on the meadow to suit both group camps and patrol camps. The large
fields are suitable for the largest County or International camps
complete with plenty of toilet and free shower facilities throughout
the centre.

activities, Phasels Wood has enough to keep you challenged and occupied.

BACK
TO BASICS CAMPING
Areas
of Phasels Wood are quiet and secluded enough to enjoy backwoods
camping. There is a plentiful supply of natural wood lying on the
ground for open fire cooking and there is plenty of canopy to erect
a bivouac.
.....
COOKING
ON OPEN FIRES
If there is a concrete base on the camp site this may be used for
ground cooking. Altar fires are to be used on the meadow, field
and on sites in the wood which have no concrete base. Phasels Wood
has altar fires for hire.
WOODPILE
There
is usually a plentiful supply of wood on the woodpile, but please
do not be wasteful. Remember there are nails in pallets, therefore,
boots are the only safe footwear on the woodpile.
WATER
There are taps with drinking water situated throughout
the site.
EQUIPMENT
HIRE We have cooking equipment, tables and benches, altar
fires and marquees.

FLORA
AND FAUNA
Phasels
Wood is a nature lover’s paradise. The woods and fields are
full of exciting flowers, trees, berries, nuts, birds and animals
to discover.
During
Springtime the woodland is carpeted in bluebells. Other native flowers
such as primroses, arum lilies, for-get-me-nots, wild strawberries,
wild roses, creeping jenny, scabious, poppies, flourish in the woods
and fields. In autumn there are blackberries, sloes, horse chestnuts,
sweet chestnuts, hazelnuts and many species of toadstools to be
found.
...............
English
native trees make up Phasels Wood and Great Wood; hornbeam, oak,
silver birch, hazel, chestnut, horse chestnut, sycamore. The new
Phasels field and Long field are being developed with oak, fir and
a variety of shrubs and native trees.
Birds
including blue tits, great tits, chaffinches, green woodpeckers,
spotted woodpeckers, little owls, magpies, tree creepers, robins
and nuthatches can be spotted throughout the site.
Rabbits
and squirrels are plainly in evidence, but occasionally, to the
trained eye, there are also badgers, muntjac deer, bats, foxes,
and the dormouse to be discovered.
