Well End Activity Centre
is a versatile site,some 10 minutes from St Albans and Central London
is 20 minutes away by train. The site is well suited for camps with
5 acres of camping field, 4 acres of woodland, campfire circle and
a wide range of activities. With it's extensive indoor accomodation,
large meeting areas and 2 large kitchens, Well End is ideal for
adult and young persons training courses, conferences, dinners and
Pack Holidays.
Our
friendly staff are able to offer activity days, popular with local
schools and youth groups.
A day can include - Archery, Abseiling, Climbing, a 7 challenge
activity course, cyclecross( bikes supplied),Nature trail and Orienteering.
The
site is also Hertfordshire Scouts Main Training Centre and is frequently
used for Leader Training courses.

Well
End is some 2 miles North East of Borehamwood just off the Al in
the South of Hertfordshire. It is completely surrounded by countryside
- ideal for walks or wide games.
By
Train - London Kings Cross Midland to Borehamwood station then 1
mile along Shenley Road and Potters Lane ( 20 minutes walk)
By
Road - M25 to Junction 23 (A1M.) Proceed South down A1M to next
Junction with Borehamwood. Enter Borehamwood and follow sign B5378
to Shenley. Turn right into Potters Lane and left into Well End
Road. The Activity Centre is on the lefthand side. Look out for
the Scout Sign.

Haydn
Dimmock Hut
This building is used, predominantly, for items of memorabilia and
as a quiet, compact area, for meetings. A part of the building has
now become the Archive Centre.
Graham
Wallis Hut
The present Hut(!),can accommodate up to 70 people and is used for
training, large meetings, conferences, etc., and has a fully equipped
kitchen. This is an ideal wet weather facilty and central dining
for those camping on the 5 acre field.
The
Warren Headquarters
This purpose-built Pack Holiday centre was constructed in 1969 and
extended in 1971 and can accommodate 30 persons in 5 rooms using
double bunks, plus 4 persons in leader room with a separate area
for toilets and wash basins. The upper storey has a large dining/common
room and fully equipped kitchen.
The
Jim Day Centre
This is our second Pack Holiday centre. Most of this work was done
in 2002 and accommodation comprises 32 persons in 5 rooms using
double bunks. There are separate toilets (with wheelchair access)
and wash basins and a fully equipped kitchen.
There is a separate toilet/washing block for the use of residents
and campers.

Activities
Challenge
Young People at Well End Activity Centre - You can organise a challenging
day for your young people. Select your activities from the following
challenges all available at the Well End Activity Centre. This programme
is designed for age range 8 to 11.
Archery
takes place on an outdoor range enclosed by safety nets.
Bows, arrows and targets are provided. One instructor is required
for a group of up to 12 people per hour. At least one additional
adult provided by you is needed to help supervise the children not
engaged on the activity. Our site staff have the appropriate qualification
to instruct and supervise this activity
Climbing
& Abseiling
We have a climbing and abseiling tower and equipment. Our Instructors
have Scout climbing authorisations. Four ropes, harnesses, helmets
and equipment are provided. One instructor is required for a group
of up to 12 people per hour. Two additional adults from your group
are needed to help put on harnesses and to supervise the children
not engaged on the activity.
Cyclecross
We have mountain bikes available to suit all sizes. There are opportunities
to follow a trail through our wooded area. Full instruction and
helmets given.
7BASE
activity challenge
- compete in small teams to complete both physical, team building
and mental agility challenges. The course will accommodate up to
three teams - each team can have up to six young people competing
at any time.
Nature
walks
Young people can complete a nature scavenger hunt. Each pair is
given a list of items to discover in the woodlands and fields within
the activity centre. An alternative activity led by our site staff
is to identify woodland trees and their habitat. Young people discover
the range of trees growing in the area. Summer only.
Each
activity is programmed to last about one hour. There are facilities
for packed lunch and with covered accommodation, alternative wet
weather activities can be arranged.
Working
on a full day in groups of 12 - 36 young people can complete all
five activities. We recommend at least 4 adults accompany the day,
ensuring adult supervision with each group of 12. Our instructors
will undertake the archery and climbing wall activities with your
additional adult supervision. Advice will be given on suitable dress
for the activities.
